Amsterdam, disegnata dai canali

Il rigore nordico abbinato al bel vivere fanno di Amsterdam la meta ideale per un giorno, per una settimana. O magari per tutta la vita. [English version below]

Amsterdam è come una ragnatela disegnata dai canali, con strade e vicoli che li seguono paralleli e ponti che li attraversano con dolci declivi; Amsterdam è una mezza ruota di bicicletta, vero simbolo della città e padrona assoluta del traffico a tutte le ore, dove la massima forma d’arte metropolitana sta nell’agganciarla alle già strapiene ringhiere o ai lampioni.

Nella capitale olandese si potrebbe soggiornare un giorno, un mese o trascorrervi tutta la vita. La si gira a piedi in una giornata, toccando i punti di maggiore interesse e mettendo in conto di macinare kilometri e subire talvolta i repentini cambiamenti climatici. La si conosce in un lasso di tempo più lungo, percorrendone le strade appartate, visitando i ricchi musei e scoprendo la miriade di negozi e atelier, che – dalla panetteria al calzaturificio – sembrano usciti da una rivista di design. Oppure si potrebbe vivere in quelle case strette e lunghe, che terminano a collo di bottiglia e pendono pericolosamente fuori bolla, perché Amsterdam è una città vitale, benestante e godereccia. Amsterdam is like a spider web designed by canals, streets and alleys that follow them parallel bridges crossing them with gentle slopes; Amsterdam is half a bicycle wheel, a true symbol of the city and absolute master of traffic at all hours, where the highest form of art to the already overcrowded subway is nell’agganciarla railings or lampposts.
